Nothing really jumping out at you that says “buy me!”, is there?

If you’re not a scaredy-cat, look outside the mainstream for some great albums to give to that music lover on your list.  For example:

Sweet Relief - (www.jamrecordings.com) A three-CD set that only costs $10. Featuring the likes of The Smithereens, The Grip Weeds, and The Lolas, every track on this release makes the case that real rock and roll isn’t dead, it’s just looking for affordable housing. All proceeds from the sale of this CD will benefit victimes of Katrina. A companion DVD release is planned for early ‘08.

Van Morrison - Still On Top, The Greatest Hits - Van is still the man in 2008, and this retrospective that pays respect to all facets of his career, not just “Brown Eyed Girl”, is the best starter kit for the Van Morrison novice.

Blind Willie Johnson - Nobody’s Fault But Mine - The Revola label has issued this new compilation that spans the years 1927-1930. This blues pioneer created alot of what later morphed into rock and roll on this collection. And yes, the title cut is the same tune that Led Zeppelin recorded in the late 70s.

If there is an album, old or new, that you want the world to know about, feel free to list it here.
